SO 8802-8902 CHALFORD LONDON ROAD (off south side) 13/70 Canal Round House 28.6.60 GV II Canal lengthman's house. 1790-1 for Thames and Severn Canal. Coursed rubble limestone, formerly rendered; rendered brick chimney; concrete tile roof. Circular. Three-storey with attic; lean-to on east side. Range of pointed arched windows with plain raised architraves and small paned timber casements to east and west sides, west with square headed doorway below, formerly providing stable entrance, now pair of glazed doors. Upper floor level pointed arched doorway on north side with plank door and coloured glass in pointed fanlight; stone steps with decorative iron handrails. Plain upper floor and eaves-level bands. Eaves- mounted chimney on south side. Conical roof with flush rooflight. Interior not inspected. One of several lengthman's houses of this type on the canal, another is identical at Cerney Wick (Latton CP in Wiltshire). (M.A. Handford and D.J.
