SP 68 NE FOXTON FOXTON 4/9 Foxton Locks, Grand Union canal (formerly listed as Foxton Locks) 7.12.66 II GV the entry shall be amended to read; SP 68 NE FOXTON FOXTON 4/9 Foxton Locks, Grand Union canal Leicester line (formerly listed as Foxton Locks) 7.12.66 GV II* (star) ------------------------------------ SP 68 NE FOXTON FOXTON 4/9 Foxton Locks, Grand Union Canal 7.12.66 (formerly listed as Foxton Locks) GV II Staircase flight of 10 locks. 2 groups of 5 locks, with a passing pound in between, and side pounds. 1810-12, restored 1909. Brick with some stone. Top Lock has a single gate, followed by 5 chambers, all with double gates and foot- bridge. Beyond these, the passing pound, followed by a single gable and then 5 chambers descending, with double gates, the lower 4 chambers crossed by foot- bridges. Flight ends at Bottom Lock. Each chamber is brick lined and has an inset brick dated 1909. Grand Union Canal, engineered by Benjamin Bevan, completed in 1814. VCH, V, 91.
