CAMBRIDGE HEATH ROAD E2 1. 4431 (East Side) Bethnal Green Museum TQ 3482 9/130 TQ 3582 10/130 II GV 2. Mid C19 and later. James Wild, architect. Opened in 1872 as a branch of the South Kensington Museum. Formed part of the original temporary structure erected at Kensington to house exhibits from the Great Exhibition. Red brick. Slate roof in 3 spans with lantern lights running full length of ridges. Facade has 3 large arched windows and an advanced, 1 storey section along entire width. Interior framework of cast iron columns in 3 bays. Bethnell Green Museum with its associated railings and statue, the 4 lamp standards and St John's Church form a group.
