1. WELLINGTON ROAD SOUTH 5086 (East Side) Town Hall SJ 8989 NE 6/36 SJ 8989 10/36 II GV 2. 1904-8, by Sir Alfred Brumwell-Thomas. Large building in white ashlar, to front elevation, with red brick with ashlar dressings to sides. Free Baroque style. Symmetrical front elevation with Wrenish centre tower with Ionic columns at angles, and finial. Clock faces. Main building of 3 storeys. Ground floor in channelled rustication. Parapet and modillion cornice. Slate roofs. End pavilions break forward, channelled rustication, with 2 storey attached Ionic columns on base. Windows to top storey in surrounds on tabs. Segmental-headed surrounds to lst floor, with hoods. Round-arched windows to ground floor, rusticated heads. Centre has 2 pedimented projections with 2-storey paired attached Ionic columns on base and large porch between with broken segmental pediment over entry. Interior:- has marble-faced staircase hall with iron foliage balustrade. Square Council Chamber with dome on segmental lunette arches. The Town Hall forms a visual group with Stockport Infirmary.
