STRATFORD ROAD 1. 5104 Highgate B11 City of Birmingham Polytechnic SP 0885 NW 53/16 II 2. C1880-90 former Birmingham Board School, now college. Martin and Chamberlain typical Gothic style design. Two main blocks with narrow link and rear wing. Red brick with stone and predominantly terracotta dressings. Steep gable and tiled roof with ridge cresting tiles. Buttresses dividing window bays. Coupled and tripled lancet windows. Gables over alternate frames and principal gable to centre of south block with quatrefoils and rose. Projecting west wing. Masters house in link block with ornamental brickwork to external chimney stack. North gable end has bowed 2 storey base to square tower, becoming octagonal turret with timber framed bell stage, slate spire and lucarnes. Effective massing to octagonal tower in intersection of rear wing with timber framed stage to base of slate spire bellcot.
