Station. 1853 for Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway in Brunel's
standard Italianate style. Timber-framed and weatherboarded with brick
chimney and hipped slate roof. Single storey. Central Waiting Room with
Station Master's office to north and Ladies Waiting Room and lavatories to
south. 3 bays with overhanging eaves on moulded brackets forming a canopy
over the platform and with a projecting central bay to the east facing the
station yard. Round-headed casement windows have moulded architraves and
2 brackets under each sill. One C20 door on each front with plain
fanlight. Plain impost band on all sides. Interior has matchboard
panelling to dado level. Station Master's Office has contemporary bench
with drawers. Waiting Room and Ladies Waiting Room each have one
contemporary bench with turned legs and arm rests, and buttoned leather
upholstery. 5 benches on platform have cast iron supports with GWR
monogram in spandrels. Original station name board has 'CHARLBURY' in a
bold sans serif face, on two posts.
