1. 5363 NORTH PARADE (North-west side) ST 7748 SE 5/385 GV Literary and Scientific Institute II 2. Dated 1865. Built for John Sinkins. Architect: J Hine. Carr and Pickford, builders. 3 storey ashlar built and wedge-shaped block on sloping site. Rounded corner facing Market Place. Ground and 1st floors channelled. Moulded strings over plinth and at impost levels. Moulded cornices to each floor and bracket modillions to eaves of slate roof. Entrance with enriched and dated tymganum on corner which is articulated by a slight and full height break. 1 by 1 + 6 bays - arcades on ground and 2nd floors, Caernarvon arches with brackets to moulded stone heads (for balconies over) on 1st floor; leaf capitals, columns on ground floor, pilasters on 1st and 2nd floors. 2 doorways on east front of ground floor separated by an arcade of windows. End elevation part rendered, 2nd floor with blind arcade. Interior: stone staircase in well on tip of wedge, cantilevered with cast-iron balusters and sweeping handrail.
