BROMESWELL TM 35 SW 2/1 Church of St. Edmund 16. 3. 66 I Parish church. West tower and nave C15. South porch C16. Chancel mid C19. Whole church altered mid C19. Tower in knapped flint with stone quoins and diagonal stepped buttresses in flushwork, flushwork to base and battlemented parapet with string course to upper stage. Chancel: stucco on flint rubble and brick with plain tiled roof. South porch in red brick with stepped diagonal buttresses and plain tiled roof springing from stone kneelers. South doorway is C12 with 3 zigzags in flat relief and hood-mould with billet ornament. C11 slit window with deep splays in north wall of nave. Sanctus bell window to east side of tower. Interior of nave has hammer beam and arch- braced collar roof. Mid C17 pulpit and communion rail with turned balusters. Traditional octagonal font C15 with seated lions to stem and the four evangelist symbols on bowl. Some poppyhead bench ends without tracery.
