1. 5120 THE ISLAND Midsomer-Norton Monument and St Chad's Well about 40 yards south-west of No 11 (The Island House) ST 6654 4/71 II 2. Circa 1866. Tall obelisk in grey stone with 2 marble plaques, 2 flags and a wreath. High battered plinth below which is grotto opening for spring - approached by path and steps from east. Erected by mother of Frederick Stukeley Savage (died 1866) for the benefit of the poor. Formerly in grounds of Norton House (demolished).
