1778. The first bridge of cold blast-iron; cast at Coalbrookdale to the designs
of Abraham Darby. Now restricted to footbridge.
Roadway rises on both sides to central span of approximately 100 ft. Semi-circular
arch, with 2 concentric arch-rings with filigree of connecting members; circle and
ogee-arched panel in each spandrel. Two subsidiary arches on south bank. Thin iron
parapet railings.
