ASHBURTON SX77SW Holne Bridge and its abutments (that 849-1/1/6 part in Ashburton CP) 07/08/51 GV II* Bridge crossing River Dart into Holne parish. C15 to mid C16. Stone rubble with granite copings to parapets. Consists of 4 segmental arches: 2 wide ones flanked by 2 narrow ones. Cutwaters both sides, the parapets forming refuges over the 2 N cutwaters. This seems to have been the bridge destroyed by floods in 1413; Bishop Stafford offered indulgences to those who contributed to its rebuilding on 19.8.1413. It was repaired by the adjoining 100s in 1558. Scheduled Ancient Monument Devon/119. See also Holne CP, South Hams District.
