II* Large town house, now library and adult education centre. Mid C18, refronted and extended early C19, altered and extended mid C20. Brick, low pitched slate roof. Rectangular centre block with projecting flanking wings; former service wing at rear on left and C20 library rear extension at rear on right. 3 storeys and brick vaulted cellars. Symmetrical 3 bay front including projecting wings of one bay each. Stone string at first floor cill level, wide eaves on pairs of plain brackets. Sash windows with glazing bars; half glazed central door in arched, panelled reveal, narrow reeded architrave, and fanlight of circular pattern. The ground floor windows of wings are arched in a brick recess. Symmetrical 3 storey side wings set back, with parapets, coped and with a deep stone fascia aligning with stone string on main section and with one storey projections aligning with face of projecting wings. The left hand has a blocked window, and the right half a 6-panel secondary door with a 3-pane rectangular fanlight, each with a crested keystone. Interior:- contains an Imperial staircase to first floor, with stick balusters and wreathed handrails. The building is set well back from the road. B.O.E. (Berkshire) p.309.
