THE AVENUE (East Side) COMBE DOWN No 1 De Montalt Place (National Westminster Bank) ST 7562 37/979 II GV 2. Probably late C19 - good restrained neo Georgian design and built as bank. Main front faces Church Road, Combe Down. 3 stores ashlar. 2 course plinth, 1st floor sill band, moulded cornice and parapet with flanking dies - the coping is swept over central panel. Parapet gable ends with chimneys having fluted frieze below cornice caps. 3 windows to Church Road, recessed sashes, those on lst floor have cornices on carved fluted consoles. Central ground floor window has shallow flanking panels and radial fluted lunette panel set above. Blind gable end to the Avenue has 6 panel door with cornice over on carved shaped console brackets. No 1 de Montalt Place forms a group with Nos 31 to 101 (odd) Church Road.
