Mid C18 terrace, part it would seem of John Wood's "Higher Town" and built by the
masons associated with the quarries. Some mid to late C19 alterations. 2 storeys
ashlar. Continuous projection moulded cornice, blocking course. No 83 has parapet
with ball finials flanking. Central house has modillion pediment crowned by ball
finial. 2 or 3 windows each, recessed sashes, some retaining glazing bars, some
with iron flower guards. No 101 has 2 storey canted bay added. Nos 83 and 85
have small fretted valance hoods to 1st floor windows. 6 fielded panel doors,
some altered, most retaining architrave doorcases with entablature over. Enclosed
porches to Nos 83 and 87. No 85 has tent-roofed trellis porch. No 91 retains
stone barrel vaulted 1st floor room and some have spiral stone staircases.
No 1 De Montalt Place and Nos 81 to 101 (odd) Church Road form a group.
