1. CHURCH ROAD 823 COMBE DOWN The Vicarage ST 7662 38/1126 II 2. Possibly by H E Goodridge. Circa 1840. Bold exaggerated Jacobethan details. Asymmetric plan. 2 storeys ashlar with projecting gabled bays. Deeply parapeted gables with very large kneelers. Tall grouped octagonal chimneys with broad unusual concave sided octagonal caps. Slate roof. Entrance front, has gabled parapeted porch set across angle of projection. Central 1st floor window 2 light mullioned, transomed, marginal glazing, the wall face carried up through eaves above to form gabled dormer with small 4 centred arched light. Moulded string between storeys. Oriel windows to right hand, 1st floor, and 2 single and one 2 light stone mullioned window, dropped dripmoulds over. Projecting east gable end with finial. 2 light attic and 3 light 1st floor mullioned casements with dropped dripmoulds. Canted stone bay window with crenellated parapet, ground floor, 4 centre arched mullioned transomed lights. Garden front has off centre strongly projecting gabled bay, moulded copings and finial. Similar fenestration to east gable end but with larger canted bay window on ground floor. Highly picturesque design particularly the gables and chimneys.
