NOTTINGHAM SK5739NE GEORGE STREET 646-1/21/221 (East side) No.8 GV II Roman Catholic chapel, now offices. c1825-28. By Edward Willson of Lincoln. Red brick, with ashlar front and slate roof. Rendered plinth. 2 storeys; 3 x 5 bays. Rectangular plan, endwise to the street. The street front has quoins and first floor band and is topped with a pediment. In the centre, a cross mullioned window, flanked by double doors with overlights. Above, 3 tripartite Gothic windows with transoms. Right return has irregular openings in the centre, flanked by pairs of pointed arched windows with glazing bars. Above, 5 smaller pointed arched windows, reglazed. Built as the first Roman Catholic chapel in Nottingham, eventually superseded by Pugin's St Barnabas in Derby Road (qv).
