George Marsh Memorial in St Mary's
churchyard

Memorial to George Marsh. Erected 1893. Rough boulder with
inscription carries a Celtic-style wheel cross with scroll
work etc in low relief on each face. The inscription on the
boulder records that 'this stone formerly stood on New York
Road, Deane, and was removed to this site by the inhabitants
of Deane, 1893'. A further inscription records that it is 'in
memory of George Marsh, martyr, burned at Chester April 24th,
1555. Erected by H.S.P vicar, 1893'.
