BRIGHTON TQ3004SW REGENCY SQUARE 577-1/38/736 (West side) 13/10/52 Nos.2, 3 AND 4 and attached railings GV II* Terraced houses. c1818. Probably designed by Amon Wilds and Amon Henry Wilds. Stucco except for No.2, which is of brick painted, roofs of slate. 4 storeys over basement, with dormers, 2-window range, double-fronted. Ground-floor decorated with banded rustication. Round-arched entrance framed by a broad porch of Doric antae, inner Ionic columns and entablature; all windows flat-arched; 3-storey segmental bay either side of entrance, the right-hand bays offset above the ground floor; the bays have tripartite windows, cornice and blocking course; bracketed verandah to first floor with cast-iron railings and scalloped canopy; central third-floor windows have cornice on consoles; sashes of original design throughout; cornice and blocking course; dormers in mansard roof; stacks to party walls. INTERIOR: not inspected. Plaque on No.2 to Dr William King, social reformer and author, who lived there 1828-30. Cast-iron railings to steps and area with conical finials.
