BRIGHTON TQ3602NE THE GREEN, Rottingdean 577-1/60/1079 (West side) 13/10/52 Hillside GV II* Detached house. Dated 1724 on a plaque above and to the left of the porch, which also carries the initials B/D/S. Red and blue brick in Flemish bond, the headers commonly blue, cobbles and some red brick to returns and rear, roof of asbestos slate. 2 storeys, 5-window range, double-fronted. Distyle wooden porch with Doric columns, panelled frieze and wide projecting cornice; flat-arched entrance,with overlight having decorative glazing, and panelled door of original design; all windows flat-arched with frames set only slightly back from the wall, those to the ground floor having heads of gauged brick under a gauged brick panel; modillion cornice; side stacks; scattered fenestration to returns with new entrance to left-hand return under lean-to roof. There is a substantial wing running westwards from the back of the building, making it L-shaped, with a curiously distorted gable end. INTERIOR: not inspected.
