ASKHAMNY 5023NY 512316/24Askham Gate and barnadjoining

ASKHAM NY 5023 NY 5123 16/24 Askham Gate and barn adjoining 6.2.68 GV II Farmhouse and barn. Late C18 incorporating a doorway from an earlier house. Painted incised stucco with V-jointed quoins on chamfered plinth. Graduated green slate roof with banded red sandstone chimney-stacks. Barn of mixed sand- stone and limestone rubble under Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays with left rear right-angle 2-storey, single-bay extension; right 2-storey L-shaped barn. Top glazed panelled door up steps in painted stone surround. Sash windows with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds. Extension has panelled door in rusti- cated surround with keyed lintel. Double sash windows in painted stone surrounds. Right of house and linking it with barn is a short wall with C17 chamfered doorway the lintel inscribed I&EL 1683. Barn has plank doors in stone surrounds and C20 casement windows. Central loft doorway. Left return wall has segmental-arched cart entrance.
