Egyptian Statue behind
the Duke's Greenhouse

Statue, c1570-1304 BC. Egyptian, collected by the Sixth Duke of
Devonshire and brought to Chatsworth in the early C19. Granite.
Seated female figure with lions head, set on a granite seat
inscribed with hyragliphic panels. Said to be the Goddess
Sekhmet from the Temple of Mut at Karnak. XVIIIth dynasty. The
Gardens and Park are included on the Gardens Register at Grade
I.
