BOURNE ROAD 1. 5005 Bexley Original building of former Bexley National Schools (formerly listed as Original Building of Former St Mary's Church TQ 4975 13/1 of England Primary School) 30.8.74. II 2. Dated 1834. Built from an endowment by the Reverend Thomas Smoult of 1703. Two storeys, yellow stock brick with stuccoed dressings in Neo-Jacobean style. Slate roof, with stuccoed parapet 2 shaped gables, with date stones and 4 clustered chimney-stacks. Moulded stucco cornice. Stucco quoins. Four casement windows, with mullions and to ground floor transoms ; shaped lintels. A date plaque with inscription 'Bexley National Schools' in centre of the first floor, probably obscures an earlier window. Brick porch with segmental arch and recessed door. Plain schoolrooms to rear; one storey; 7 windows on south side.
