BRISTOL ST5678 HENBURY ROAD, Henbury 901-1/21/1368 (South West side) 04/03/77 Timber Lodge, Blaise Castle Estate GV II* Cottage. Early C19. Clad in strips of bark; brick stack and thatch roof. Single-depth plan. Cottage ornee style. Single storey and attic; 1-window range. Openings formed with curved timbers: pointed-arched doorway in right-hand porch, windows with pointed arches, leaded ground-floor casements and lattice attic windows. INTERIOR not inspected. Though not mentioned in Repton's Red Book of the Blaise Castle House landscape scheme, and therefore possibly contemporary with the 1766 castle (qv), it is much more in character with the Nash/Repton improvements of 1798. A finely detailed and uncommon design, exemplifying the rustic simplicity of construction advanced by contemporaries such as Rousseau.
