SS 92 SE BAMPTON BRITON STREET, (north side), Bampton 6/26 The Toll-House - GV II Former toll-house. In use by 1819, possibly a bridge toll-house. Local stone rubble with a deep hipped slate roof and left end stack with stone shaft. Probably 1 room on plan with a single-storey rear lean-to which may be a later addition. Exterior: 2 storeys. 2-bay asymmetrical front with a plinth and string course; C20 panelled front door to the right. 2-light casement windows, 6-panes per light, the ground floor windows larger than the first floor, all with segmental stone arches with keystones. The toll-house stands in the fork of the Old and New Tiverton roads, overlooking Briton Street and the bridge over the River Batherm.
