CLACTON-ON-SEA OFF WEST ROAD TM 11 SE 11/17 Martello Tower adjacent to sea wall, Butlins Holiday Village II Martello Tower. Circa 1808-12. Vari-coloured brick, made at Grays, Essex, now rendered. Stone parapet. Rusticated stone dressings to 4 windows and door at half height. Built at a cost of approximately £5,000. The garrison was stationed at Weeley Barracks due to the unhealthiness of the coast. Kenneth Walker The History of Clacton 1966.
