WINDMILL ROAD SW18 1. 5033 Windpump called 'The Windmill' TQ 27SE 4/7 2. Built 1837 to pump water back into an ornamental lake from the adjoining London and Southampton Railway cutting. A miniature smock mill. Hexagonal weatherboarded body and cap on hexagonal brick base. Before the filling in of the lake in 1884 which lost the windpump its purpose there were 4 double shuttered patent sails and a fan wheel mounted on the cap.
