War Memorial. 1922. By J C Prestwich. Ashlar Portland limestone. Cenotaph set on
stepped stylobate in centre of memorial garden. Classical style. Plinth with
re-entrant corners; bronze plaques on 2 sides are set in architraves under wreaths
and are flanked by engaged columns with fluted shafts and palm-leaf capitals;
dentilled cornice above friezes inscribed 'OUR GLORIOUS DEAD'. On the top is a
styalised coffin bearing crosses and wreath. Sides have sculptured swords set
between bronze pikes and frieze is inscribed with dates of both World Wars.
