C16 manor gatehouse incorporating parts of 2 wings of C14 manor house, C15 1st
floor of north wing. Much restored. Timber frame, plaster infilling, some ground
floor stonework. Gables either end of tiled roof. Central carriageway with blocked
4 centred arched doorway. Renewed casement windows. 2 storeys, slight projection
at north end of Manor Yard front. Restored interior retains ground floor ogee
arched doorway, C16 newel staircase, 1st floor 2 curved headed stone fireplace
surrounds.
The Manor House settled 1337 on the Black Prince, who visited it for long periods,
as did Queen Isabel. VCH, VIII, pp,18-2l.
