ST54NW WOOKEY CP HIGH STREET (South side) 21/169 Mellifont Abbey 22.11.66 GV II Rectory, now house. Rebuilt mid C18, probably on an earlier site; incorporates considerable C13, C14 and C15 re-used freestone detail, probably from nearby Court Farmhouse (qv). Rubble, brick dressings, slate roofs, crenellated parapets; brick stringcourses, porch and stacks. Gothick incorporating Gothic features. Two storeys, 4:1:3 bays, sash windows in pointed arch openings, brick surrounds, keys, 3 windows blank and infilled with brick; left bay on ground floor with C20 French windows, Gothick fanlight; above heads of first floor windows C13 carved freestone busts and corbels. Prominent 3-storeyed embattled central porch, ornamental brick work which is in C16 style, diagonal buttresses, pointed-arch opening on each face of ground floor, carved heads as keys; re-used freestone oriel on first floor, 4-lights, panelled mullions, ornamental cornice, leaded lights; above an arcade made up of former carved spandrels and 2 pedimented niches with brick surrounds. Door opening in Strawberry Hill Gothick, half glazed door, sidelights, ogee-arched fanlight. Right-return in conforming Gothick style. Rear with some non-conforming C20 alteration. Interior with many good C18 features.
