Cross C14 mid C19 addition. Red sandstone ashlar and Ham stone carved panels, about 6 metres high. Octagonal in plan,
3 steps with chamfered nosing and offsets at base, socket with oblong sunk panels enriched with figures, representing
the Apostles and scenes from the life Christ. Octagonal shaft with tripartite, trefoil headed sculptural niche
containing central figure reputed to be John the Baptist flanked by a monk and a bishop. The shaft is surmounted by a
mid C19 cross. The sculptural panels are an unusual feature and Pooley, Old Crosses of Somerset, 1877 describes it as
"an unrivalled example of Fourteenth Century work", (Photographs in NMR).
