Remains of Private/Royal Apartments. Late C12. Flint and clunch rubblestone with
ashlar dressings. Two storeys, now roofless with square room adjacent to Museum
and wall projecting North-East towards tower keep. Main walls approximately 7 - 8
metres high with spur wall to north east lower. Round-arched window in one wall
with deep embrasure, tile-edged round-arched door to left. The apartments are part
of a scheduled Ancient Monument, Surrey Monument No. 1.
