accommodation bridge

Canal lock on Kennet and Avon canal. 1799-1810. John Rennie, Chief Engineer
Lock brick with stone copings. Timber gates. Upper gates with ground paddles,
inset ladder in lock. Lower gates with gear for gate paddles.
Both gates restored-1975. Accommodation bridge below lower gate,
bullnosed 330 mm brick ring dying into lock wall. Two course
string and parapet with flush round brick coping, the bridge
splayed on plan. One of an important group of industrial and
utilitarian monuments of special interest.
