SJ 48 SW SPIKE ROAD 393/10/1178 Liverpool Airport Control Tower and Terminal 19.06.85 GV II* Control tower and terminal building. 1937-9. Sir A.J.Cobham with Sir J. Burnet and Partners. Brick with concrete dressings. Central octagonal tower and curved ranges of buildings with flat roofs of different heights. Facade to runways has projecting ground floor with gallery over, central projection has rounded ends. 8-bay ranges of 3 storeys flank tower and outer. Lower 10-bay ranges with rounded ends. Tower has round base. Laced windows with blue brick large between to alternate sides. Concrete stage with range rectangular windows and top steel stage with continuous balcony. Rear has central projecting wing with entrance and flanking round stair towers. Among the earliest surviving examples of ai,r transport buildings in the UK. P.
