BRISTOL ST5772NW CLIFTON HILL, Clifton 901-1/14/785 (South side) 08/01/59 Hercules statue approximately 100 metres south of Goldney House (Formerly Listed as: CLIFTON HILL (South side) Hercules Statue at Goldney House) GV II* Statue. Erected 1758. Limestone ashlar with lead statue. Panelled plinth with bowed ends, and statue of Hercules holding club. Part of a notable and well-preserved mid C18 garden layout. The inventory made after the death of Thomas Goldney (III) in December 1768 refers to "1 Large Leaden figure of a Hercules": there were 17 figures in the garden at that time.
