SD 92SW TODMORDEN (former M.B.) WHITE SLACK GATE SD 928205 5/321 White Slack II Laithe-house. Early C18. Watershot masonry, ashlar quoins, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Double-pile on plan single cell with another cell taken out of barn to ground floor only with hay-loft over. All are double chamfered mullioned windows of 6 lights to both floors. Some mullions removed from ground floor window. Doorway with tie-stones. 2-light window. Segmental arched cart entry, carried on long skewbacks, has inner entry formed by portal. Doorway into added cell in re-entrant angle. Mistal doorway at lower level to right hand corner. Chamfered rectangular ventilators. Left hand return wall has 2 taking-in doors with tie-stone jambs (blocked). Rear has similar disposition. Kneelers without copings. Single stack to ridge. Interior: Barn of 3 bays formed by 2 tall stone pointed arches with well dressed voussoirs. The building is one of group in the Todmorden region that have stone arched barns instead of timber trusses. This would possibly appear to be the earliest example, the house having double chamfered mullioned windows.
