House. Probably c1400 and later C16, with late C18 and'early C19
alterations. Timber framed (cruck truss) with brick walling and
tile roof with brick ridge and right end stacks. Front faces
south; 3 ranges of single storey and attic, 2 and 3 storeys. Left
range (containing former open hall of probably c1400) has
entrance to right, 2 sash windows to centre and left and 2
dormers over. Centre range, later C16, has further sashes and 2
dormers, and right range, late C18, is of 3 storeys. Various
wings to rear, have casements. V.C.H. reports interior as
retaining a massive full cruck truss at the west end of the
former hall (centre point of left range). This has principals
slotted for wind-braces and 2 tiers of purlins. The truss
dividing the 2-bay hall was formerly open and is of arch-braced
collar-beam type. Screens passage may be later reconstruction.
Left section of left range altered c1800 and 1954. Central range,
probably originally a self-contained house, has massive chimney
and much framing visible at first floor. Right range contains
cellars and baking ovens.
