MALPAS C.P. CHURCH STREET SJ 44 NE (North Side) 2/25 The Wyvern (formerly listed as 22/10/1952 Wyvern Hotel) GV II Formerly coaching hotel, now shop and living accommodation, C18, altered early C19, of brown brick in irregular bond with grey slate roof. 2 storeys plus attics in roof; 7 windows on upper storey. The lower storey, much altered, has (left to right) coach entry to stable yard; shop window; replaced door under semi-circular fanlight in softwood-framed open porch; projecting C19 bay in Flemish bond with replaced window under 2-ring camber head; small canted bay window. The upper storey, refenestrated early C19, has Georgian window-openings reduced in size under original camber arches, with small-pane casements, splayed reveals and heads, and labels. C18 modillion cornice. 3 4-pane dormers under shallow slate roofs. Brown brick ridge chimney, right. Former stable yard at rear has "barrel vault" canopy of corrugated iron on steel frame, of Dutch barn type. Interior: Both main storeys are much altered; C19 open-well stair has shaped newels and shaped square balusters. Attic rooms have 3 broad-board doors on shaped wrought-iron hinges.
