SJ 55 SE CHOLMONDELEY C.P. CHOLMONDELEY PARK 2/25 Beeston Lodge II Lodge and gateway at the east entrance to the park, 1854 (above wicket gated opening). Red sandstone, in random rubble, with tile roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays and tower east front, and 2-bay entrance front (north). Irregular road facade has return of south stepped gable, square stair turret with stepped lancets and steep pyramid roof with mushroom finial, a stepped east gable with pointed first floor oriel and trefoil headed single light windows below, and the three-storey north-east tower. The tower is broached to form an octagonal plan, has arrow slots at two levels, lancets at first floor level and crenellated parapet with angled water spouts. The Lodge is linked to the main gateway by a wicket within the wall, this has the date above in three incised linked circles. The main opening is flanked by twice-offset buttresses, it has a shallow Gothic arch, with archivolt, and contains a pair of mainly openwork wood gates with metal-shoe-spiked Gothic head. The gate wall is stepped and has carved arms at the centre. The Gothic headed Lodge entrance is in the tower, it has wing lights and there is a canted bay window with stone roof west. Flanking curved crenellated boundary walls form a semi-circular approach to the east drive.
