Formerly known as: The Column ABBEY FOREGATE.
Monumental column. 1814-16. Thomas Harrison of Chester, Edward
Haycock and John Carline of Shrewsbury. Ashlar. Giant fluted
Greek Doric column raised on steps with lions couchant on
star-shaped stone plinth. Projecting entablature forms
platform with iron railings. The column is surmounted by a
statue of Lord Hill.
