Sources for studying the local built environment can be found in variety of places.
Some sources can be obtained from one national organisation for any area, for example the National Monuments Record can supply aerial photographs for all parts of England. Most sources will, however, be found in the local area by visiting the archives or local studies centre where a wealth of fascinating local documentary material can be obtained to support a study based on real evidence.
The world wide web is itself a growing source of information and the websites of organisations involved in the historic environment will all provide source material and information on where to find more.
